For many years Children’s World Impact has hosted a community Food Packaging Event that is open to the public. This has been done in conjunction with KIDS Around the World, out of Rockford, Illinois. In seven different events, our organization has packed over 800,000 meals that have been distributed to hungry children and families around the world. This year we will package our 1,000,000th meal!
Over the years, many of the meals went to Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake. Just last year, in 2014, the meals went to Liberia, Africa, which had been severely affected by the ebola crisis. Where the meals go is determined by need. The last two years, we have packed rice and macaroni that has stayed right here in Walworth County and distributed to local food pantries. We like to think of this as making a “GLOCAL” impact! (local global)
Over 3,000 volunteers from local communities have made this possible. This has become a tradition for many families, businesses, and civic organizations.
How Does a Food Packaging Event Work?
There are ten volunteers placed at each table. This team works together cooperatively to pack boxes of meals.
