Shelter

Clean, safe shelter is a basic human need that many marginalized people throughout the world do not have. Obtaining a safe, stable place to call home is foundational to well-being and development.

Throughout the years Children’s World Impact has had the opportunity to finance the construction of homes for families in many different global locations, including Ecuador, Mexico, and Haiti.

Homes for Teachers

Many teachers of rural schools travel miles to and from school each day, often without any form of transportation. This becomes an issue during the rainy season of many countries. As part of our Makapwa Primary School project in Malawi, Africa, CWI financed the construction of two teacher homes. These homes provide shelter for educators who can live on the school grounds. Homes such as these make it more likely that rural schools can find teachers to fill vacancies and provide a quality education to their students.

Transitioning Orphans

Young adults transitioning out of orphanages are often at higher risk for experiencing different forms of abuse They also have difficulty accessing social services. CWI has partnered with another NG out of Colorado, Every Life, Inc, to help bridge the gap for such individuals.

CWI provided partial funding to develop Lighthouse, a building project near the city of Malindi in Kenya, Africa. This project provides shelter through mini-apartments for young adults who are making their way from life at an orphanage to life beyond those protective walls. In addition, Lighthouse is providing these individuals with opportunities to learn how to cook, manage their finances, and education that will provide skills that make employment more likely.

Homes for Ecuadorian Families

In April of 2016, Ecuador was hit by the strongest earthquake to affect the country since 1979. Entire communities were flattened, hundreds were killed, and thousands more injured. Children’s World Impact was able to build two homes for families affected by this natural disaster.
